Michele Notaro is one of my favorite authors, but, I guess no one is perfect.Because I only read paperback books, it's unfortunate that her books come out first electronically in Kindle format, and are not published in paperback sometimes until 6 months or more later. And although I bought and read book 1 of the "Interlocking Fragments" series, which was pretty good, book 2 and 3 are still not available in paperback almost a year or more later.I first learned about Michele Notaro great writing when reading the Taoree Trilogy, which was really a great gay SciFi series. I then read the Reclaiming Hope series which was also excellent.I figured most of her books and stories were good, so, although I prefer gay Supernatural or SciFi stories trather than just love stories, I purchased the first 3 books of the Finding My Forever series.The first 2 books were ok, I guess, if a little boring, but I was really really disgusted after reading the 3rd book of this series, "Left Behind." Filled with love scenes and graphic sex scenes... what was most sickening about the book was the constant and continual "I love you"... I" love you too"... "I love you"... I love you too"... over and over and over and over... I mean there was so much relationship and romantic mush, I thought I was reading about two over emotional female characters instead of guys! The story itself was also extremely boring and had no action or adventure whatsoever. I couldn't wait to get through the book, skimming as much as I could just to finish the damn thing. So, when "A True Fit" book 4 of the series came out... I certainly did not buy it!But since her other book series' were really good, when her "Ellwood Chronicles" series came out, I figured I'd give them a try, this time only buying one book at a time. As, it turned out, the "Ellwood Chronicles" series was really really good.So, when the "Brinswick Chronicles" Series came out, continuing the "Ellwood Chronicles" story, I immediately bought book one when it came out on paperback, then "Nikolai" book 2 when it came out on paperback, but did not want to start reading the series until "Basil" book 3 came out in paperback, which took about 6 months or more, so had the first 2 books just sitting collecting dust.I finally began reading the "Brinswick Chronicles," and found "Thayer," the first book of the series, to be extremely good! Unfortunately the same cannot be said about "Nikolai" the 2nd book of the series!The first two thirds of "Nikolai" was very similar to "Left Behind," book 3 of the Finding My Forever series. Except, that Nikolai was about a 3-way love relationship, the first two thirds of the book was filled with constant and continual "I love you"... I" love you too"... "I love you"... I love you too"... over and over and over and over... again, so much relationship and romantic mush I thought I gonna puke! The story itself was pretty good, but the first 2/3 of the book was pretty boring and had little action or adventure.This book is no novella, it is a 400 page tome, and although the story itself is a good one, I skimmed as much as I could to get through the first two thirds of the book. Perhaps the story line should have been condensed, the relationship garbage left out entirely, and the last third of the book, which was very good, left as the main portion of the book, cutting the amount of pages in half!Fortunately, although I've only read the first 50 pages, "Basil", book 3 of the series, seems to be as good as Thayer the first book.
